| Fall 2011 The geese are heading south, and the snowbirds are not far behind. Fall has arrived and the trees will soon be filling our area with brilliant colors. The smell of wood stoves will be in the air and unfortunately the snow will be falling soon. There have been changes to the board. We are sorry to see Jim Martin resign. He is moving from the community and we are grateful for the years of service he has given us. Lori Essex is the new president and Brian Pagano is the new secretary. Rich Winkler is the vice pres., Ed Moen is the treasurer and Brian McCarthy is the fifth Director on the HLE Board. The A.C.C. will be Lori Essex, Brian Pagano and Rich Winkler. Over the summer the board has been working to defend the rules and regulations against community members who feel that the rules do not apply to them. There have been flagrant violations and the attitude of these offenders is that they will buy their way out of not following the rules. Hopefully, the board will be able to correct this situation. It is a deplorable matter that there are people who move into the community and implement their projects with no regard for what the covenants dictate. This shows little respect for the rest of the HLE members that chose to live in this community and are in favor of the covenants and what they stand for. A reminder that ALL BOATS must be removed from the common area by November 1st. Have a safe and warm winter, Brian McCarthy NOTES FROM THE BOARD The results of the recent proposals concerning amenities in the common area are: 130 members (of a possible 152) voted and 55% were in favor. Lori Essex will be eliciting members to form a committee to research the cost of the swing set including installation. The cost for the bocce court has already been submitted with the installation being done by members, along with a horseshoe pit. All projects are expected to be started in the spring of 2012. The installation of speed bumps was defeated by a 74% vote. This leaves the community members responsible for enforcing the speed restrictions. The board will issue fines to any member reported speeding in the community. If contractors are involved, the homeowner hiring the contractor will receive a notice to correct the offending party, with fines to the homeowner for repeated offences. As the leaves begin to fall, all property owners are reminded that they are responsible for the cleaning of the culverts and pipes under their driveways. These must remain free of debris in order to prevent damage to the roads. When the snow arrives (and you know it is coming) please do not deposit the snow from your driveway into the road. Our snowbirds are reminded to have someone inspect their homes for any problems while they are away. In the next few weeks we will be installing the snow fence on the dam. We would like to thank all who have helped in the past and invite anyone else who would like to lend a hand. The date and time will be posted at the mail shed. In the future, we will be posting current information concerning HLE down at the mailboxes and will send out information via e-mail to those not living in the community. This will keep owners up to date in between Ripples publications. The title will be, “What’s Going On in HLE” and will be written by Lori Essex. History Fact “Ripples on the Lake” is the byline of Brian McCarthy and was started by him before he became a member of the HLE Board. The Board agreed to publish his writing with the agreement that “Notes from the Board” would be added as input by the HLE Board. We believe this should be stated to put things into perspective. Brian is likened to be the Ralph Nader of HLE, and we appreciate his efforts. |
